Kathleen’s career began in Vermont as an educator in 1997, transitioning to mental health counseling in 2008. Combining her passions for teaching and counseling, she founded OpenGate in 2023 to support new counselors pursuing licensure. Kathleen offers supervision, consulting, and training, fostering clinicians’ strengths and growth. Alongside these roles, she maintains a small client caseload, using an integrative approach that includes Positive Psychology, CBT, IFS, and Psychoeducational Counseling to provide holistic, client-centered care.

Kate brings a brings a wealth of experience to her practice, having worked as a clinician for over a decade. She has focused in both substance use and mental health counseling and has extensive training and experience utilizing a variety of clinical models and tools. 

Kate’s most recent role was Clinical Director at an agency located in Central Vermont. During her time in this role, she developed a training and supervision program to support new counselors both during their internships and toward licensure. She has spent the last decade building programs to support Vermonters and developing strong relationships with providers throughout the state. Kate has worked to improve outcomes for Vermonters through exploring, creating, and consistently improving processes both within her practice and throughout the community. Catherine specializes in addiction and trauma resolution, with training in treating borderline, antisocial, histrionic, and dissociative personality disorders. She is also a multilingual educator (French and German) and a nationally certified science instructor for grades 6–9.

She earned her MSW from UVM in 2020 and worked as a hospice social worker for years before shifting her career to private practice. Because of this work experience, she specializes in grief counseling and supports clients and caregivers around issues of aging, dementia, and death and dying. Judy Springer, MA

Judy has spent the majority of her career as an ecologist working to restore human and natural ecosystems. She holds graduate degrees in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Forest Science and has been a registered yoga teacher since 2017. She follows the mantra that when we heal ourselves, we heal the Earth, and the reverse holds true as well. Toward that end, she incorporates solution and goal-oriented techniques to mutually explore what is holding you back from getting to where you want to be and then working with you to align with your dreams and goals. These techniques include the use of stories, art, nature-based practices, cognitive behavioral therapy and somatic and mindfulness techniques. She also incorporates spiritual practices to ease grieving and trauma, to explore questions surrounding existentialism, and to build resiliency in navigating today’s shifting global, technological and climatic landscapes. Marissa’s goal is to provide a safe, caring, and collaborative space for people to explore themselves and their place in the wider world. She works with individual adults (age 18+) to alleviate distress, move through life’s challenges, and cultivate a life rich with connection, fulfillment, and belonging. She partners with those experiencing anxiety, stress and burnout, trauma and PTSD, depression, grief and loss, attachment and relationship issues, and eco-grief and climate anxiety. Depending on the needs and goals of the individual, parts work/IFS, somatic practices, EMDR, DBT, attachment theory, and outdoor therapy may be integrated into therapeutic work together. Her approach is rooted in a humanistic, strengths-based, trauma-informed, and liberation-focused lens. 

Marissa holds an MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and an EdS in Nature-based Experiential Counseling from Prescott College. She views the natural world as a co-facilitator in the therapy process, one who can guide us toward a holistic well-being of body, mind, and spirit. Her work weaves traditional psychotherapy approaches with nature- and adventure-based experiential therapies. Lauren comes to her counseling practice, Hill Haven Counseling LLC, following a career of teaching and school counseling at all levels from preschool to high school in Central Vermont. After earning an MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Lauren decided to embrace private practice in order to more expansively serve her community. She specializes in supporting children (8+) and adolescents, their caregivers, and adults in finding balance, attunement and authentic living in a world that does not always nurture tender hearts. 

Life is full of significant transitions that can be hard to navigate in the midst of uncertainty or challenging relationships. He offers dynamic and caring in-person and online sessions from his main Central Vermont office located in Montpellier or at his satellite offices in Essex.  Jacob applies a cooperatie and humanistic trauma-informed approach matched with open and direct dialogue foundationally rooted  in Narrative Therapy, social constructivism and social justice,  Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Behavioral approaches, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy approaches, and Existential Therapy frameworks.
